..::Welcome to the Rattery::..

I've owned rats for over 6 years as pets before jumping into breeding. I have done research on breeding for the past 4-5 years before deciding to do so.

My goals are to breed rats that have strong immune systems, have nice typed heads, and are friendly and seek human contact.

I breed to further my own mischief's first with pets being adopted out second. I breed very few lines as a small scale rattery and rats are not bred "on demand".

I focus on dwarves, velveteen coats, dumbo and standard ears, Fawn, Agouti, Black, And Russian Blue Agouti Varieties.

I am an AFRMA registered Member as of the month of June 2025. My rattery tag is now officially CRTH but images from before this show the old tag of CTR.

Gen Pop for the Main Line Bucks. This is where male rats waiting for homes or residents will live.
This is a "cat cage" that was converted for the rats. It has a 5 inch deep metal pan, and is wrapped in hardware cloth so even dwarves are safe.

Gen Pop for the Does. This is where female rats waiting for homes or residents will live. Top bin is the Main line Does, bottom is the Chaos Line does.

This is where the rest of the rats live. Top bin houses two retired dwarf does.
Bottom houses the Chaos Line bucks.

Maternity ward. Does in late pregnancy, or with babies under 3 weeks old will be in the smaller Lab bins. This is safest for fragile babies.
The blue lidded bin cages are for standard does, or dwarves with larger litters.
There's also larger bins(not pictured) for when mom's need a bigger cage after the pups are 3 weeks old. Each bin is filled with baby safe enrichment so they can learn how to rat.

I have an emergency kit and birthing kit ready to go as well.

When moms are close to due dates, I set up a camera so I can watch them from any place in my home, or via a VPN when away.
My main cages are 50 gallon bins that have been converted into cages. They have 1/2 inch hardware cloth on all sides and the top. I use hammocks, bridges, ladders, hides, chew toys, and foraging toys in my cages just like any other cage. The bins are large enough that I can fit inside at 5'4" tall and 190lbs.
CTR rats are not plastic chewers so these work great for them!

CTR rats also have access regularly to a large playpen with toys. The toys and layout rotate often but usually include a bench to sit on, a water fountain to play in, things to climb on, and tunnels to run through. I swap stuff in and out to keep them interested in playing.
The girls and boys get separate playtimes of course!

the playpen has a corrugated plastic base so it's easy to clean, and the carpet is protected.
I have a storage bench that I store extra rat toys in and they are rotated between so the rats are always kept busy

I use a clip chart to keep track of which group of rats has been out most recently.
